Cinder, the first book in the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Myer is about 16-year-old Linh Cinder, a mechanic in New Bejijng 126 years after the fourth world war. She was adopted when she was 11 years old by Linh Adri and Garan. Her adopted father died from Letumosis when she was 13. Cinder is a cyborg who is considered a second-class citizen. Letumosis is spreading and the enemies, Luna, are raging war.
A surprise comes knocking on Cinder’s booth, Prince Kai the prince of the Eastern Commonwealth asks her to fix his android. Queen Levana the evil queen of Luna comes to New Bejing. Cinder’s unloving Stepmother volunteers Cinder to test the antidote for Letumosis, so far no one has come out alive. Cinder survives the test and meets Dr. Erland. Lunars have special bioelectricity power to manipulate them and make themselves look different. This ability has caused them to turn into liars and are not trusted and not welcomed on earth. Cinder falls in love with Emperor Kai and Levana wants to kill her. On the night of the annual ball, Cinder gets revealed as a cyborg and something more.
I loved this book and the rest of the series. The characters are so unique and special in their way. All of the books are based on fairy tales. And the hope these characters have is amazing. A few scenes didn’t make sense but that made up for the thrill of the book. I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who likes science fiction, fairy tales and is at least eleven or older.
